Burns Night - 25th January 2025

The History Of Burns Night

Burns Night commemorates the birth of Robert Burns on January 25, 1759, with a traditional Burns supper—a special evening celebrating his life and work.

The tradition dates back to 1801, when nine of Burns' close friends gathered to honour the fifth anniversary of his death.

Over the past two centuries, new customs have been added, but the essence of the celebration remains unchanged.

Participants enjoy a hearty Burns Night feast featuring haggis, neeps, and tatties, accompanied by drams of whisky. The evening includes recitations of Burns' poems, performances of his songs, and heartfelt tributes to Scotland’s beloved Bard.
