History -
The Anderson tartan is linked to the Anderson family, whose roots date back to the 13th century in Peebles and Dumfries.
The surname "Anderson" originates from the Gaelic term Gilleaindreas, meaning "servant of St. Andrew," the patron saint of Scotland.
Notably, the Anderson tartan stands out among Scottish tartans for featuring seven colours, compared to the typical six or fewer.
As a result, it requires a specialized loom for weaving.
The Anderson tartan's pattern is thought to have been based on a "fancy" design that was popular before King George IV's visit to Scotland in 1822
The largest concentration of early Andersons was in Aberdeenshire in the 15th century.
The Anderson name is most common in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Shetland, Angus, Dundee City, and the Scottish Borders
